Cowgirlblues stands for exquisite hand-dyed mohair and merino wool from Cape Town – produced fairly and with love. The founder, Bridget Henderson, gathered ample inspiration on her many travels as a management consultant, but the most beautiful color combinations are conceived in her mind during her hikes around Table Mountain. It was here that she initially began experimenting with hand-dyeing as a one-woman operation.
Meanwhile, the Cowgirl Blues team – thanks in part to the high demand for their creations from Europe – has grown to include several women who receive the necessary training and fair wages. In a combination workshop and studio, Bridget and her team hand-dye various wool and mohair yarn bases to create heathered or semi-solid colors. Sometimes a few splashes of dye are added, resulting in the distinctive Cowgirl Blues colors. The heathered (variegated) versions always contain some of the semi-solid shades, creating wonderful combinations. Even combining different yarn bases in the same color produces stunning effects.
