Karen's hat is knitted in a smocked pattern in rows, starting at the forehead and working towards the back. The number of stitches is gradually increased from the forehead to the back, ensuring a perfect fit. The back of the head is shaped using decreases on double-pointed needles. Finally, a casing for a drawstring is made along the bottom edge.

Fits a head circumference of: 34-36 (37-39) 40-43 (43-45) 45-48 (48-50) cm                  

Gauge swatch_ Smocking pattern: 38 stitches on 3 mm needles = 10 cm

Stockinette stitch: 28 stitches on 3 mm needles = 10 cm

Recommended needles: Circular knitting needle 3 mm (60 cm), double-pointed needles 3 mm
