This yarn has a rustic, woolly feel and is not at all artificial. The colors include both clear solids and those with a subtle tweed effect. It's a perfect yarn for beginners, as you can quickly achieve beautiful results and the yarn structure is particularly easy to work with. And the price is, of course, very affordable!
We recently decided to reduce the recommended needle size from 5 mm to 4-5 mm, as most people prefer a denser knit.
When it comes to recycled materials, it's important that the original fibers don't travel halfway around the world before being recycled and processed. That's why our Reborn Wool is spun in a family-run business in India, where a large surplus of textiles is generated and recycled directly on-site. The company is managed by a father and son, with whom we developed this beautiful yarn.
The production process in detail: First, the garments are sorted by fiber type at the factory. All garments with more than 60% wool go into the wool sorting area, regardless of the exact percentage. This can include items made of 100% wool, blends of 60/40 wool/polyester, 70/30 wool/acrylic, or 80/20 wool/polyamide, or other blends where wool is the predominant component. Nowadays, only a small percentage of garments are made from pure wool. Most mass-market garments are wool blends. The fiber obtained from these blends typically contains 65-75% wool, mixed with other fibers such as polyester, viscose, acrylic, etc.
Once these garments, which are predominantly made of wool, enter the second sorting process, they are sorted by color. During the shredding process, 10-15% recycled polyester (rPET) is added to make the yarn stronger and create a beautiful, even thread. The rPET used is derived 100% from recycled PET bottles.
